3 Great FREE Online Food Journals

People find it cumbersome to maintain an up to date food diary while trying to lose weight.  They find crunching the numbers on a daily basis more of a chore than anything else.  Often people simply give up on the food journal and decide that they can go on without one.  Have you ever tried to drive somewhere you are unfamiliar with – without a map?  It is essentially the same concept, without direction or understanding of where you are, you will be lost and may never get to your destination.

On the rise is the use of online food journals that allow you to enter what you eat with the use of your phone.  As long as you have internet, you are a few clicks away from keeping your journal up to date.  This lets you put away the clunky old journal you carry around and whip out after every meal.  Below I will present 3 great online food journals that will make losing weight tangible and attainable.

Lose-it!

Lose-it is the first one I wish to address as it has so many great features.  It enhances the way people attempt weight loss by automatically tracking calories and showcasing them to you.  Not only does it allow you to track what you eat, it also has a large database of nutritional labels so all you have to do is put in what you ate – it will do the math for you!  It can also track your progress regarding weight loss and graphically represent it throughout your weight loss journey.  And if this was not enough, it can sync with other fitness apps such as the Nike+ system to take into consideration of your calorie expenditure.  Finally, Lose-it has an abundance of Challenges that you can partake in or create to enhance your weight loss diet and adherence to your goals.  In addition to its web browser login, you can also access your Lose-it account through your smartphone using its app.

My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal is next on this list and has many of the previously mentioned features.  You can add what you eat during the day from any web browser or mobile phone through its respective app.  Currently, the website states it has over 2.3 million nutrition labels in its database, therefore whatever you eat is easy to find.  You can also create your own recipes at any time and adapt your own personal food database if you eat something homemade.

FitDay

FitDay is a simple, easy to use online food journal with many of the similar features available from its competitors.  It has the ability to let you set weight goals and manage them, log your food, track your daily activity, and view graphical representations of your progress.  It may not be as feature rich and have as much of a user community, however it may be what you are looking for.  Finally, it has an iPhone app which can be found on iTunes so you will always have your journal on hand.

Tracking daily food intake could never get any easier.  To reiterate, the above mentioned programs are all FREE.  It would be a no brainer not to sign up for any one of these.  They will take the guess work out of caloric intake and make your goals that much easier to attain.
